Dual-band Antennas made from Coax (and Natter Night)

AT TONIGHT’S CLUB MEETING, inspired by a discussion in our club-members only online forums, Chris G3WIE will give a talk at the start of our meeting on dual-band coax antennas (typically, but not always, VHF/UHF and end-fed).
We will discuss the antennas in a way that’s straightforward and without a lot of mathematical concepts. Chris will explain the many sorts of these antennas (J-Pole, Flowerpot, Slim Jim), what to expect from them, and some practical ways for building and installing them at home and in the field.
An impressive genre of simple antennas that can greatly improve the reach of your 5W handheld transceiver, as well as more powerful radios.
Afterwards, there’ll be plenty of time for Q&A and to hear about attendees experiences with these antennas.
β οΈ This is a great opportunity for those currently studying for their Foundation licence, those recently licensed, and those interested in amateur radio but haven’t yet gotten their feet wet, to learn about how these antennas work and how to construct them ourselves; ideal for the 2m and 70cm bands (so you can attach your handheld radios to these antennas to reach further distances on limited power).
The evening will resume with general conversation, where you can catch up with friends, discuss important aspects of amateur radio, and enjoy cuppas and biscuits (bring a mug).
π§ Visitors and guests are welcome to contact us if you’d like to attend as well. Bring your own mug for coffee/tea β we’re a green facility with no plastic cups.

Directions to find room FP4: after signing in at the visitor’s centre, exit the centre turning 90Β° right and walk down the pathway ahead of you passing rooms PF1 and PF2 (on your left). After a bit you’ll run out of path and must turn left to get into the building. Once in the building turn right and PF4 will be directly in front of you.
Room FP4 is Fort Purbook’s second-largest conference room (see: https://peterashleyactivitycentres.co.uk/meeting-rooms/). It is versatile and illuminated with natural light. The room is equipped with a fixed projector.
This space is perfect for moderately sized meetings but can make a wonderful breakout space for team-building activities. The room offers privacy, as it is not adjacent to any of Fort Purbrook’s other conference spaces.
