Confused Amateur Radio Builder“Here’s one I made earlier…” 🔨

🗓️ Meeting Room FP4, 1900hrs start.

A ‘show and tell’ evening for club members, guests and visitors to display and/or demonstrate/talk about equipment they’ve made themselves (homebrew), share proud constructions, and amazing kit builds…

  • Have you built something that was better, cheaper, faster than the commercial alternative or something you’re just darn proud of? Something useful in amateur radio? Whether it’s a medium-wave radio kit, a balun/antenna combo, a device you made that helps you, or DeLorean flux-capacitor, bring it to this month’s club meeting for others to see and talk about with you.
  • Would you like to see something someone has constructed? Something you’d be interested in? Pop a comment down below so that members know what interests you.

For larger items, we can print photographs for you to display on the walls.

We’ll use all of Room PF4 for builders to show display / demonstrate / talk about their projects in a casual, one-on-one arrangement. People can chat with each other about what interests them / what they’d like to learn to build, etc.

If there’s interest, we can add a bit of structure where builders might spend a few minutes talking to the room about their creations: what inspired them and how hard it was to build and to make work.

Visitors and guests are welcome – bring a mug to drink from!

*FP4 is Fort Purbook’s second-largest conference room (see: https://peterashleyactivitycentres.co.uk/meeting-rooms/). It is versatile and illuminated with natural light. The room is equipped with a fixed projector. This space is perfect for moderately sized meetings but can make a wonderful breakout space for team-building activities. The room offers privacy as it is not adjacent to any of Fort Purbrook’s other conference spaces.

Ask at reception for directions.

We’re interested in seeing innovation as much as construction skills.

If you’ve soldered your first ever FM radio kit, found a hands free way to transmit using two rubber bands, or discovered that your messy toroid windings held together with Blutac work just as well as the neat ones… we want to see what you did.

Of course, bringing in something that was constructed at the pinnacle of your time in amateur radio will be just as welcome.

As said to me when I first purchased a £35 1:1 choke: “you could have made that for a fiver…”, though I didn’t yet have a clue how I’d do that.

This evening is the place to inspire others, and for attendees to see what they might do too.
