Friday 23rd August

🌧️Weather!

WX problems – some of us are in the shack doing our best to make some contacts. We hope that as the weather improves, more operators will set-up at the Fort to begin calling

FPARC GB1PF Special Events Station.

Friday 23rd August

We will be setting up our station(s) atop Fort Purbrook from 10am.

When we’re ready, we’ll begin transmitting, adding new operators as they arrive and set-up their own kit.

🗣️We want a Good QSO!

We’re not just logging contacts “contest style”. We want to have a chat with you. A proper QSO! Talking a little about the Forts’ History, the area and our Club (heck, we have briefing sheets!)

Saturday 24th August – Monday 26th August

We will be activating our GB1PF Palmerston Forts Special Event Station through the bank-holiday weekend.

We’ll add more operators (over different bands and modes) as club members arrive to set-up their own gear.

Communicating New Information: We’ll use the comments section (below) and various Social Media posts to alert you of new information.

📡We aim to be transmitting on MULTIPLE BANDS and various modes supported by both the club equipment, and any additional personal equipment club members set-up.

FM, SSB, CW, Digital Conversation Modes (PSK, RTTY, MFSK, Olivia, etc), with possibly D-Star & C4FM simplex too.

Club Members: please bring all equipment that you’d like to use. We’ll co-ordinate band-use together, and see what band filters we have available.  Further details on the event will be on our private Club Bulletin Board Service in due course.

Amateur Radio Operators: We look forward to meeting you on the air during a GB1PF QSO!

About Palmerston Forts Special Event Station

Locations of the Palmerston Forts and other defences, including gun batteries, in the Portsmouth area.

Palmerston Forts and other defences around Portsmouth

GP1PF is our special event representing the historic Victorian military defence buildings known as the Palmerston Forts,  encircling the City of Portsmouth (Hampshire – south coast of England).

This special event evolved from the Fort Purbrook Amateur Radio Club establishing itself at one of the substantial pieces of Victorian architecture: Fort Purbrook, it inspired the focus of our special event station.

GB1PF was activated for the first time in July 2014.

For further information, see The History of GB1PF or our GB1PF QRZ Page.

The forts were activated well before 2014, I helped with the team at Fort Nelson in the 1090’s.

Correction to the year in my previous comment, should read 1990’s. Not 1090’s.

The misfits group will be next to The Churchillian pub in the car park facing north. We will be there from 10am if anyone wants to come and say hello.
