Arranging a Visit

You’re thinking about joining an amateur radio club, and you want to check that you and the club members are a good match?

Maybe you’ve been licensed for years but have fallen-out of the hobby. You’d like to try TXing again for an afternoon.

You’re welcome to pay us a visit at any of our meetings, and you’ll need to know some rules & guidelines before you arrive.

Visitors are welcome at our Amateur Radio Club

🚗💨You’re welcome to pop down to visit us. We invite you to join us at one of our monthly Friday evening meetings or observe our activities during a field event. We may also be able to supervise you in an arranged trial of our club shack or a trial of amateur radio (OFCOM licensing terms will apply).

Visiting Club Meetings

Our Scheduled Club Meetings are on the last Friday of the month at 7pm (the exception being our December meeting, which is scheduled earlier in the month), There are two locations to consider:-

(a) Fort Purbrook

When at Fort Purbrook we usually use room PF4. At this time of evening, the Peter Ashley Activity Centre staff will be covering the Visitor’s Centre, so when you arrive, sign in at the Visitor’s Centre, and come and find us in our meeting room (details listed on each Club Meeting event post).

(b) Deverell Hall

When meeting at Deverell Hall, park your car in front of or behind the building and come into the Main Hall (the entrance is on the side of the building, not the door that faces the behind car park).

Visiting Field Events

We hold various Field Events during the warmer months. Usually these events are held up at Fort Purbrook.

Events held on the weekend at the fort means:

i) The Peter Ashley Activity Centre staff may not always be available at the Visitors Centre.

ii) The fort’s entrance gates may be locked to the public.

⚠️ It is important that you contact us before visiting a field event (see our Contct Us page).

After contacting us, we will let you know in advance who to contact (and how to contact us) when you arrive on the day, that you’re aware of health & safety procedures and to not wander the fort alone.

⚠️ Which ever location, or whatever event, please let us know of your intended visit in advance  (Contct Us) so that we know to look out for you.

COSTS FOR ATTENDEES: we ask all attendees (club members, visitors and guests) to pay £1 per meeting to cover our hire costs at our event’s location, but refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits, etc) are provided free of charge (please bring your own mug, as we are a green facility without plastic cups).

📨You may send a message to our Membership Secretary (Peter G4NKX) or our Honorary Chair (Geoff G4XMJ) to let us know when to welcome you. Just click here to go to our contact form and get in touch 👍.
