Before writing your post article, please read the important FPARC Styling Guide.  Maybe keep it open for help while you write your article.

A Blog is a (usually short, sometimes long) post on a website.

“Blog” is a shortened version of the word “weblog,” where one “logs” something to one’s “website”.

To get started, , you can create a new blog post from scratch, or clone an existing one to amend according to your needs. If you would like an example blog post copied to your account, ask someone on the Webmaster Team.

Creating a Blog Post.

You can create a blog post from scratch as follows:-

  1. Log into the website: https://fparc.uk/wp-login.php
  2. On the left-hand-side dashboard, look to the Posts menu and select Add a New Post.
  3. Add a title in the very first field at the top of the window (e.g. “My First Transceiver” is a decent title).
  4. Go to the Categories box look for “Blog” and tick that category.
  5. Now, use the main body of the post to write your article; it works just like a word processor.
    • You can write as little or as much as you like – but remember that someone will be reading your article, so make it interesting!
    • If your blog post begins to become quite long, remember to break-up your post into manageable sections, using headings 2-6 to summarise each section’s topic.
    • Remember to hit [Save Draft] every so often (maybe 30 minutes?) so that you don’t accidentally lose your work through computer failure.
  6. When you’re all done, the last thing is to click on Set Featured Image in the Featured Image box. This will open the Media Library for you to choose a suitably large-ish image (or upload a new one) that represents your article. This image will be used by the website (and sometimes online services like Facebook, Twitter, Google, Bing, Yahoo etc) to represent your article.
  7. If you wish, you can enter/select some tags for your blog post (for information about WordPress tags, see this Google query).

If you want to preview your article, click [Preview] button.

If you want to come back to this event to complete it later, click [Save Draft] button.

When you’re ready to publish your article to the website, click the [Publish] button.

Cloning a Blog Post

As an alternative to creating an article from scratch, you can go to a list of articles on your account (see: https://fparc.uk/wp-admin/edit.php?category_name=blog)†, hover your mouse over the article that you’d like to clone, and select the Clone option underneath the title.

This will create a new draft post containing all the information from the original article. This might save you time, and you might be able to use formatting techniques used previously.

Users with the Editor Role will be able to see everyone’s blog posts. If you have an Authors Role will be able to see only blogs you have written.

Once Published

When your blog post is published, different parts of the website will update themselves automatically. You won’t have to edit those pages to show there’s new website content.
